Core Principles
- God’s Word is sufficient for every matter it addresses. It is all we need for life and godliness (2 Pet 1:3–4; 2 Tim 3:16–17; Ps 19:7–11).
- God’s indwelling Holy Spirit empowers change in the follower of Christ (John 16:13; Eph 3:20).
- No one drifts towards excellence or sanctification. Scripture teaches that God works in the believer to will and work for His good pleasure (Phil 2:13).
- Active participation in the local church is a primary vision of the New Testament (Heb 10:25).
Complimentary Consultation
I invite all potential clients to take advantage of a free initial consultation (usually a 30-minute discussion via telephone or Zoom). It is important to understand the biblical counseling process. Unlike traditional secular counseling, biblical counseling relies on the power and authority of God’s Word. Biblical counselors are not licensed by the government as our advice is a form of Christian discipleship. It is unapologetically biblical in nature.
Counseling Process
If clients move forward after the initial consultation, I will provide them with personal information and consent forms. These forms must be returned before the next session. Sessions typically run about 60 minutes with the exception of session 1. That first session will likely last about 90 minutes as I get to know you better and the reasons you are seeking biblical counseling. Most clients find that 6 to 8 sessions are very helpful. I will assign biblically-based growth assignments between our meetings. These assignments are vital. One hour meetings per week will do very little to assist you. Real help comes from consistently encountering the Creator through His Word. You may choose to discontinue the sessions at any time. Some folks find easy answers in 1 to 2 sessions. Others have more substantial concerns that require more time.
Rate
I charge an hourly rate of $70 per session. There is no additional fee for the extended first session.
